On Wednesday, the Constitutional Court ruled that the recent imposition of a state of emergency in the country is in line with the Constitution and the law on the state's security in wartime, state of war and state of emergency. "The Constitutional Court has accepted the grounds for declaring a state of emergency and confirmed that this state has been imposed on the whole territory of Slovakia," stated Court head Ivan Fiačan for the media, adding that the Government has also met the formal criteria for doing so. The imposition of the state of emergency was questioned by a group of opposition MPs, who filed a motion with the Constitutional Court to examine the constitutionality of the move. Meanwhile, Deputy Prosecutor-General Viera Kováčiková did likewise, with the aim, however, of removing all doubt in the matter. The state of emergency in Slovakia entered into force on October 1 and should remain in effect for a total of 45 days. The Government resorted to this move in response to the worsening coronavirus situation in the country.
