The levels of water courses in many parts of Slovakia are rising fast as a consequence of the steady rain that has been falling since Sunday, the Slovak Hydrometeorological Institute (SHMU) reported on Tuesday.
Exceptions to this notable increase in water levels include the Slovak part of the Danube River basin and the central and lower parts of the Ipel River on the Slovak-Hungarian border.
Due to problems with the heavy rain, Slovak firefighters had to intervene 175 times on Tuesday. The situation was particularly serious in the east and north of the country, with some houses being flooded and their inhabitants evacuated. SHMU has already issued alerts related to steady rain for almost the whole of Slovakia, with the exception of the far east.
