Military proves useful in coronavirus outbreak

The help of the military in the fight against the COVID-19 outbreak in Slovakia demonstrates the important role the armed forces play in domestic crisis management, Defence Minister Jaroslav Naď (OĽaNO) stated on Wednesday. According to Naď, Slovakia has dispatched almost 1,500 soldiers, who were assigned with various tasks - from military medical service and policing the borders up to providing aid in Roma communities. The Defence Minister is confident that "NATO had a chance to show people - the general public and also defence experts - that the alliance is important also in the context of the collaboration of allies in pandemic issues". "We proved capable of showing people that no other real alternative exists to NATO - particularly for small countries such as Slovakia," said Naď during the Globsec security conference in Bratislava.
