The Visegrad Four (V4 - Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Poland and Hungary) prime ministers' meeting with European Commission (EC) President Ursula von der Leyen in Brussels on Thursday morning was held without Igor Matovic. "The Slovak prime minister wasn't participating in the V4 meeting in Brussels due to his working agenda in Slovakia and his meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. Czech Prime Minister Andrej Babis was tasked with representing Slovakia," the TASR press agency learnt from the Cabinet Office.
The EU's long-term budget, the Recovery Fund amounting to €750 billion and the new Pact on Migration presented by the EC on Wednesday were high on the agenda of the V4 leaders' talks with von der Leyen. The V4 countries are known for their rejectionist stance on the mandatory relocation of migrants and asylum seekers. However, the latest Pact on Migration meets their idea of flexible solidarity. Slovak opposition voiced their criticism towards Igor Matovič for his absence in these talks.
