Health Ministry spokeswoman Zuzana Eliasova stated on Thursday for the TASR press agency that the ministry is not currently holding talks with Russia or any producer of an antiviral medication called favipiravir on supplying the cure to Slovakia. Eliasova reacted in this way to information published by the media that the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIV) along with its business partner ChemRar would supply an anti-COVID-19 drug named Avifavir, which is based on favipiravir, to 17 countries, including Slovakia. "To the ministry's knowledge, the medication hasn't been registered in the EU. Data on its effectiveness is limited, and it only includes patients who have experienced a mild course of COVID-19 and didn't need lung ventilation," noted Eliasova.
