The deposit system for plastic bottles and beverage cans will start at the originally set date, i.e. from January 1, 2022. This follows from the amendment to the Waste Act, which Parliament approved. The deposit system for plastic bottles as of 2022 was originally approved by the previous government. However, the current one postponed it to 2023 in April of this year due to the pandemic situation. The Environment Ministry was concerned they would not manage to introduce the deposit system for plastic bottles in time as of 2022. However, Environment Minister Jan Budaj (OLaNO) eventually said at the end of May he would strive to start the deposit system within the originally set deadline. According to the Environment Ministry, the approved amendment to the Waste Act also significantly corrects exiting shortcomings in the current waste management system.
