The two leaders discussed the growing concerns of Russia violating the sovereignty of Ukraine, as well as its upcoming elections. Both agreed on the need to support the Ukrainian people as they head towards constitutional reforms and the Ukrainian presidential elections on 25 May, according to a statement released from the White House. Prime Minister Fico received appreciation for Slovakia’s continued efforts to work with Ukraine to help diversify its energy supplies. The Vice President also congratulated Slovakia on the 10th anniversary of its entry into NATO and reaffirmed “the strong US commitment to enhancing collective defence in Europe”.
