Public Health Office expects high numbers of coronavirus cases

The Public Health Office (ÚVZ) noted that high numbers similar to those recorded in recent days can be expected in the nearest future, given the facts that children recently returned to schools and pre-schools and adults returned to work from holidays. The ÚVZ explained that the public's mobility has increased, and the risk of spreading the virus has grown as well.

Last Friday, the country registered a record high number of cases 226 of new coronavirus infections. Most of them were reported in Bratislava (75), western Slovak Nitra (22) and the central Slovak town of Tvrdošín. (20). The number of daily tests stood at 5,947.

The ÚVZ stated that it expected such a surge given the large number of tests that were carried out. At the same time, the office explained that when it comes to the cases that were registered in Nitra and Tvrdosin, the majority of them were contacts of people who had tested positive earlier.
