The prosecution failed to meet the burden of proof in the murder case of journalist Jan Kuciak and his fiancee Martina Kusnirova, which invited doubts and led to the unequivocal not guilty verdict for Marian Kocner, his lawyer Marek Para stated after the Specialised Criminal Court in Pezinok handed down the verdict on Thursday. Para refused to comment on the fact that the case is being forwarded to the Supreme Court.
Lawyer of the Kuciak family Daniel Lipsic is convinced that the chain of circumstantial evidence that the prosecution put forth was sufficient to find Marian Kocner and Alena Zuzsova guilty, as the pieces of evidence were insurmountable, logically coherent and dispelled any doubts. Lipsic finds the first-instance court's decision factually incorrect. As the case will now be appealed to the Supreme Court, Lipsic voiced his hope that the appellate court would make a just decision.
