Parliament accepts President’s objections to Prosecutor's Office act

On Wednesday, MPs approved an amendment to the Prosecutor's Office Act, together with some comments proposed by President Zuzana Čaputová when she vetoed the law. Both the Prosecutor-General and Special Prosecutor may remain a prosecutor at the Prosecutor-General's Office after the expiration or termination of office. At the same time, MPs deleted the sentence from the law which would allow the President to dismiss the Prosecutor General and Special Prosecutor on the Parliament's Proposal if they cease to perform their work properly, honestly, independently or impartially. The law will enter into force on the day of its announcement.

According to the re-approved amendment, candidates who are not prosecutors may also apply for the post of head of the Prosecutor-General's Office. The range of persons and institutions proposing candidates should be expanded.
