Interest Rates Applied by Non-banking Institutions Might Be Capped

Opposition MP Pavol Zajac is to introduce a proposal in Parliament whereby non-banking institutions‘ interest rates for consumer loans would be capped at 37.5-percent. "Now they offer you a loan of €100, often via SMS, where you have to pay them back €125 in 15 days," said Zajac. According to the Slovak Central Bank’s data the population’s debt towards non-banking institutions increased to €2.4 billion last year.
