On 2 September the capital of Slovakia, Bratislava, in cooperation with the Bratislava solid waste management company (OLO), begins its collection of items that would normally end up in a trash bin. The initiative is part of the City Bazaar event, announced Bratislava spokeswoman Katarína Rajčanová. "Items that you no longer need but are still functional can be brought directly to OLO headquarters every Wednesday, Friday and Saturday," the spokeswoman said, adding that if people wish to donate a large item or more items at the same time, free transport will be provided to them during last two weekends of September. "Those interested will then be able to buy the collected items at symbolic prices at the City Bazaar, which will take place on the second weekend of October," the spokeswoman added.
It is possible to donate furniture, books, magazines, CDs and DVDs, board games and toys, sports equipment, home and gardening supplies, assorted children's items, bicycles, scooters, office and school supplies, breeding supplies and musical instruments. Items must be clean, preserved, functional and complete.
The Municipal Bazaar event will take place on 10-11 October in the Komunálny podnik complex on Bazova Street. "The collected funds will be kept in a transparent bank account and will be used to build a sustainable Bratislava reuse center," the city announced.
