Mayors of towns feel that they have not been listened to properly when it comes to the creation of rules for drawing EU funds in the new 2021-27 programme period, Slovak Towns Union (UMS) president Richard Rybnicek announced on Friday, warning of potentially large regional disparities if the mayors are ignored.
The mayors want to initiate talks at the top political level. The Investment and Regional Development Ministry said in reaction that it is open to communication with all partners.
"We believe that the state should communicate with mayors of towns and villages about how the whole territory of Slovakia should be developed. We must take into account how people live and not how illogically Slovakia is divided up in administrative terms," said Rybnicek. UMS thinks that the so-called bottom-up method should be used for redistributing EU funds.
