Coalition MPs will submit to Parliament a draft amendment on universities that should enable academic degrees to be withdrawn, announced OLaNO party spokesperson Dasa Macarikova on Friday.
The amendment would not allow academic degrees to be withdrawn retroactively. The MPs propose that the amendment should take effect as of the beginning of 2021, so it should apply to diploma theses submitted by students after January of the following year.
OLaNO claims that Slovak universities need reform and tougher terms for assessing diploma theses. It stressed that the system must not favour dishonest students or academics. The amendment should introduce the principle that "an academic degree is withdrawn by the institution which granted it".
