In its official stance on Belarus approved on Wednesday, the Slovak Government is calling for an end to violence and respect for fundamental human rights and freedoms, a thorough investigation and just punishment of those responsible for the violence against Belarusian citizens, the immediate release of detained peaceful protesters, and an inclusive political dialogue with civil society representatives with the goal of swiftly repeating the presidential election with national and international observers, local and foreign media, and representatives of non-governmental organizations. According to Foreign Affairs Minister Ivan Korčok, Slovakia supports at the EU level targeted sanctions against President Aleksandr Lukashenko's regime, but such that will not affect ordinary citizens in Belarus. No details were given on what these sanctions could be.
