Italy fell in Slovaks' holiday preference, and the Czech Republic is still at the top, followed by Austria, according to a ranking made by Tatra banka. The bank created the list on the basis of the number of transactions carried out with payment cards in June and July this year and compared them with 2019. Following the opening of the borders and the easing of anti-epidemiological measures, the volume of card transactions abroad increased but compared to last year it is still only 61% of the volume in the top 10 countries.
"In the case of Croatia, a popular holiday destination for Slovaks, we posted a drop in the volume of transactions of up to more than 47% and in Italy by as much as 80%," said the bank. Spain is not on this year's list of top 10 countries. The Netherlands jumped five places, from last year's 12th spot to seventh place in 2020.
