Eight year Hedviga Malinová case takes new turn

Hedviga Malinová Žáková has been charged with providing false testimony under oath by the Prosecutor's Office. “Upon taking up his post, Prosecutor-General Jaromír Čižnár declared his willingness to ensure the completion of several cases that had been dragging on for years.

Therefore, the new administration at the Prosecutor-General’s Office has done its utmost to complete the preparation procedures in the criminal case concerning Hedviga Malinová,” said Prosecutor's Office spokesperson Andrea Predajňová. Hedviga Malinová Žáková, an ethnic Hungarian, claimed that she was attacked and beaten up by Slovak nationalists in Nitra in August 2006, but this account was soon rejected by the Slovak police. The case led to strains in Slovak-Hungarian relations and has seen many twists and turns since 2006.
