Hedviga Malinová Žáková, an ethnic Hungarian, claimed that she was attacked and beaten up by Slovak nationalists in Nitra in August 2006, but this account was soon rejected by the Slovak police. The case led to strains in Slovak-Hungarian relations and has seen many twists and turns since 2006.
