The Slovak team defeated team Austria in the 2nd round of the Group 1 of Euro-African division of the tennis tournament the Davis Cup. The first surprising victory was achieved by Norbert Gombos, who is the 167th player on ATP’s rankings.
Overall on matches Slovaks won 4:1 advancing to the relegation round to the place in the elite World group. On another positive note, a young Slovak tennis player Jana Čepelová played her first WTA tournament finals, at the Family Circle Cup in Charleston. Here she was outlasted by Andrea Petkovic of Germany. Nevertheless, Jana Čepelová is satisfied with her performance in Charleston and she says that this is going to be the tournament she will remember for a long time.
