Slovakia's industrial output dropped by 8.5% year-on-year (y-o-y) in June, but it increased by almost 21.7% when compared to May, the Statistics Office reported on Monday. Following significant falls in previous months (chiefly in May - 33.5% and in April - 42%), industrial output in June posted the lowest y-o-y decrease since the coronavirus outbreak. As for more specific details, industrial output development in June was influenced by a y-o-y drop in production, repairs and the installation of machines and equipment, going down by 30.6%. Other notable decreases were reported in the production of metals and metallic structures (by 19.4%), transport facilities (9.4%), machines and equipment not classified elsewhere (15.3%) and rubber, plastics and other non-metallic mineral products (10.7%).
In the first six months of the year, meanwhile, industrial production was down 17.7% y-o-y, which was due to annual drops in industrial manufacturing (by 20.6%) and in supplies of electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning (0.2%). Conversely, production in mining and quarrying swelled by 4.5%.
