The completion of reconstruction works at Bratislava Castle, originally scheduled for February 2021, will not only be postponed to June 2021 but also see cost overruns due to an important archaeological finding underneath the castle. The discovery of a section of unique 11th-century wooden fortifications prompted the Bratislava Regional Preservation Office to extend protection to the findings back in October 2019. It will also call for an amendment to the ongoing reconstruction project. The archaeological findings are expected to be displayed to the general public as of 2023.
