Slovakia posts trade-balance surplus of €219.7 mn in May

Slovakia posted a trade-balance surplus of €219.7 million in May, up €114.4 million year-on-year (y-o-y), the Statistics Office revealed in its detailed report for May on Friday.
The country exported goods worth €4.572 billion, down 34.3 percent y-o-y in May. Imports reached €4.353 billion, decreasing by 36.5 percent y-o-y. Meanwhile, Slovakia reported a trade-balance deficit of €524 million in the January-May period. Goods worth a total of €27.36 billion were exported, recording a drop of 20.1 percent y-o-y. Five-month imports amounted to €27.884 billion, down by 16.9 percent y-o-y.

In the same period the highest surpluses were recorded in trade with Germany (€1.585 billion), the United Kingdom (€891.4 million), Austria (€798.5 million), France (€710.1 million), Poland (€701.9 million), Hungary (€473 million), the Czech Republic (€382.6 million), the United States (€358.4 million), Italy (€336 million), Spain (€282.3 million) and Romania (€278.5 million).

Conversely, the biggest deficits were in trade with South Korea (€1.503 billion), China (€1.482 billion), Vietnam (€1.38 billion), Russia (€1.12 billion), Malaysia (€157.7 million), Taiwan (€128.3 million) and Japan (€105.6 million).
