The European Students Union (ESU) and the Slovak University Students Council, which is a member of it, are urging all parties involved in university education to bolster academic integrity in Slovakia, reads their joint statement released on Wednesday. The statement comes in the wake of plagiarism scandals surrounding the academic theses of several members of the government and parliament. According to the Slovak University Students Council, deficiencies in academic integrity might have an adverse impact on the quality of the education system. Because of this, the council expects the Government to take comments by students as well as the general public and experts into account, and incorporate them into a legislative change that would create a just and efficient system able to revoke academic degrees.
