US funds could be used to buy new Black Hawks

The Defence Ministry could spend $50 million from a US fund called Foreign Military Financing in order to purchase additional Black Hawk helicopters and equipment for Black Hawks bought earlier, said Defence Minister Jaroslav Naď (OLaNO) on Tuesday, adding that the final decision will depend on the demands of the Slovak Armed Forces.

"There's also an option to buy lighter helicopters for domestic crisis management, for protecting the eastern border or for the search and rescue services. There are several alternatives," said Naď.

Foreign Military Financing can be used to co-fund the purchase of military equipment to replace old equipment dating back to the time of the Warsaw Pact.
