Prime Minister faces no-confidence vote in parliament

123 days after the appointment of the new government, Prime Minister Igor Matovič faces a no-confidence appeal in the parliament. The extraordinary session was initiated by the deputies of the opposition SMER-SD together with the non-affiliated deputies around the former PM Peter Pellegrini. In addition to plagiarism and the failure to keep his promises as prime minister, opposition MPs say that the entire political career of Matovič is based on fraud, false accusations against his opponents and lies. Matovič on Wednesday (July 22) said that if Parliament ousted him, he would step down as party chair and retire from politics. Preceding the special parliamentary session with a no-confidence motion in Matovič, the Government on Thursday morning disagreed with the proposal for the Prime Minister's dismissal. The opposition does not have enough votes in Parliament to sack the prime minister and the coalition parties have not called for Matovič's ouster.
