Hungarian parties see their future in uniting

Ethnic Hungarian political parties are gearing up for joint talks on potential co-operation, and concur that their voice in Parliament is not heard.

The mutual collaboration is being advocated by Spolupatricnost-Osszefogas party chair Szabolcs Mozes, Most-Hid chair Laszlo Solymos and Hungarian Forum chair Zsolt Simon. Mozes plans to invite the representatives of ethnic parties to a meeting in late July. Solymos views the deal between Most-Hid and SMK as most pivotal, although every party willing to help ethnic minorities will be welcome at the negotiating table.

"What we need is a single strong party or movement, one however which also reflects diversity in the community and hence integrates both conservatives and liberals," Mozes announced. He warned that Slovak governments without ethnic Hungarian parties are not typically concerned about the development of southern regions of Slovakia populated by ethnic Hungarians.
