Government plans to make public transportation free of charge for students, pensioners and disabled people. This measure is part of the social package presented by the government on Wednesday. So far, only trains provided free transport to students and seniors. According to PM Igor Matovič, the reason for expanding the free of charge transport from trains also to buses and city transport is that some regions do not have a railway network. This measure together with the monthly allowance for pregnant women should cost 150-160 million euro. Former PM and leader of the Smer-SD party Robert Fico thinks that the proposed plan will be found problematic by the municipalities.
