The capital city of Bratislava has begun the renovation of the Slavin Memorial for an amount of almost 2 million euros. The reconstruction will take place in several phases; the first phase will last until this autumn and will be co-financed by the Interior Ministry. The works will take place continuously until the end of 2022. As the Slavin Memorial is a national cultural monument, all works will be carried out under the supervision of the Bratislava Regional Monuments Office. The Slavin War Memorial commemorates the liberation of the city by the Red Army in April 1945. It is also a cemetery for 6,845 Soviet soldiers who died during the battle for the city and the surrounding region in the last weeks of World War II.
