The Education Ministry wants to present a new draft bill on higher education institutions in the autumn of this year and Parliament should vote on it in the spring of next year. University rectors also agree that a new law is needed. Education Minister Branislav Grohling (SaS) discussed the preparation of the new legislation at a meeting of the Slovak Rectors' Conference. The department will present specific measures after the summer holidays, but the changes should include, for example, the division of universities into research schools and those that focus on the development of professional bachelors. The new legislation should also cover the way in which universities are financed.
