"Slovakia's security strategy must represent a unified position on what the world looks like at present, how Slovakia should react to the turbulent changes and where it wants to belong in this world." These are the words of the Foreign and European Affairs Minister Ivan Korčok (a Freedom and Solidarity/SaS nominee) following the approval of the draft for the preparation of Slovakia's security and defence strategy on Wednesday. Korčok emphasised that not only the Foreign and Defence Ministries should work closely together in the preparation of the documents but the aim is also to involve representatives of other ministries. Defence Minister Jaroslav Naď (OĽaNO) added that in the preparation process they plan to address political parties, the civil public as well as the academic community. "It must be a very inclusive process," he stressed, pointing out that the update of both security documents is all the more important because strategy documents from 2005 are currently still in use. The foreign affairs and defence ministers are supposed to submit the draft security and defence strategy to the Government by the end of 2020.
