Investigation underway into vote-buying

As of Monday (March 31), the Special Prosecutor's Office has begun an investigation into a criminal complaint filed by Freedom and Solidarity (SaS) MP Lucia Nicholsonová concerning suspicions of vote-buying during the presidential election run-off in eastern Slovakia, TASR learnt on Tuesday.

“On Thursday in Gelnica, while distributing leaflets for the upcoming European elections, we were approached by three Roma citizens who offered to obtain votes for the elections from the Roma settlement for three euro each”, said Nicholsonová. According to her, the Roma also admitted that somebody had promised them five to seven euro each for their votes in the presidential election. “From my personal experience in the field, Roma are literally trained to vote for reward. They take it for granted”, she added.
