Slovak Foreign Minister Ivan Korčok (a Freedom and Solidarity/SaS nominee) ordered a thorough inspection of the course of action taken by the Slovak general consulate in Saint Petersburg, Russia in granting a visa to an individual with an allegedly false identity who purportedly participated in the murder of an ethnic-Chechen Georgian in Germany. The case was first highlighted by the Dennik N daily which reported that a man calling himself Roman Davydov requested a one-year visa at the Slovak general consulate in Saint Petersburg last July. Investigative journalists from Bellingcat, Der Spiegel (Germany) and Insider (Russia) found out that the man received a Slovak visa despite providing false information. Davydov then allegedly took part in preparations for the assassination of ethnic-Chechen Georgian Zelimkhan Khangoshvili, a former military commander for the Chechen Republic of Ichkeria, in Berlin one month later. The assassination was allegedly orchestrated by Russian secret services.
