AmCham: Science and education can pull Slovakia out of the crisis

The American Chamber of Commerce in Slovakia (AmCham), which recently organised a discussion between scientists and representatives of the private sector, reported on Thursday that according to the experts, Slovakia could be pulled out of the crisis by science, research, education and innovation. "It's precisely a knowledge-based economy, new patents and the licenses stemming from them, basic and applied research and innovations that could motor Slovakia out of the crisis," noted the experts.

The participants in the discussion agreed that science in the country has been achieving average to below-average results in many areas and it lacks world class excellence. "We have superb teams, but they're isolated and lack systematic support," stated the representative of the Slovak Academy of Sciences (SAV) Pavol Sajgalik.
