Courageous teacher praised

Several school organisations in Slovakia have praised the courage of Jaroslav Budz, the maths teacher who on Thursday tried to stop the knife attacker in a school in Vrutky (Zilina region) and subsequently succumbed to his fatal stab wounds. Several hundred people gathered to light candles in his memory on Thursday evening. "We bow down to the courage of this teacher, who didn't hesitate to sacrifice his own life for his colleagues and pupils," reads the statement of the Slovak Teachers Chamber (SKU). Meanwhile, Prime Minister Igor Matovič (OLaNO) has stated that he intends to suggest to President Zuzana Caputová that she should award the teacher a state award in memoriam. The attacker was shot dead by police. Five people were injured in the attack including two pupils.They are in hospital in a stable condition.
