Forty-eight percent of Slovaks perceive corruption as a problem, according to a special Eurobarometer survey on corruption, the results of which were published by the European Commission (EC) on Wednesday. The survey indicated that corruption is unacceptable to 69 percent of Europeans, but there are big differences between member states. The latest survey confirmed that citizens in 24 of the 27 EU countries think that corruption is widespread in their country. This fact is most believed in Croatia (97 percent), the least in Sweden (40 percent), and in Slovakia, as in the Czech Republic, 87 percent of respondents believe this, thus putting both countries in the seventh worst position in the EU. Corruption as a phenomenon is unacceptable on average for 69 percent of EU citizens. The Portuguese are the most committed to rejecting corruption (88 percent), while the Hungarians are the least opposed to corrupt practices (38 percent). Slovakia is in sixth place from the end of the ranking, with a 48-percent rejection of corruption as a phenomenon.
