Industrial prices down in April

The prices of industrial products dropped by 0.9% month-on-month in April, the Statistics Office reported on Thursday. The most notable decreases were observed in industrial production - down 2.3%; in mining and quarrying - down 2.1%; and in water supplies, waste water treatment, waste management and sanitation services - down 0.1%. Conversely, prices went up in supplies of electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning - 1.2%. Prices of industrial products for the domestic market grew by 1.4%. This was due to the following increases: in supplies of electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning - 7.3%; in water supplies, waste water treatment, waste management and sanitation services - 1.2%. Meanwhile, prices dropped in mining and quarrying - 3.4% and industrial production - 2.1%.

The prices of industrial products increased by 2.2% on average in the first four months of 2020 when compared to the same period in 2019. This was chiefly due to higher prices in supplies of electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning - up 5.2%; in water supplies, waste water treatment, waste management and sanitation services and in industrial production - both up 0.7%. Prices in mining and quarrying dropped by 2.8%.
