The Prosecutor-General's Office needs to be transformed into an open, transparent, proactive and procedurally independent institution. This according to President Zuzana Čaputová after meeting with legal experts, representatives of state institutions and academia in the Presidential Palace on Tuesday. The majority of President Čaputová's guests, including Justice Minister Mária Kolíková (For the People) and Supreme Court chair Ján Šikuta, have promoted the view that only a prosecutor by profession should be eligible for the post of prosecutor-general. On the other hand, House Constitutional Committee chair Milan Vetrák (OLaNO) claimed that if he stands in favour of allowing even non-prosecutors to vie for the post, it doesn't automatically mean he already has his own candidate in mind. Čaputová signalled that she plans to continue meeting with experts on this matter, as she sees the issue as being "quite extensive".
