Presidential garden to buzz with bees

Non-governmental and non-profit organisation Živica has placed two bee hives in the Presidential Garden as part of the City Bees project, in was reported on Wednesday. "We decided to create a space for bees in the garden. It's meant to be a symbol on the one hand, but it's also designed to support the idea that bees don't belong only to the countryside, but also in cities," explained President Zuzana Čaputová. According to the president, who noted that part of her agenda is protecting nature, the bee is a symbol of how everything is linked in the natural world. "If there were no bees, there would be no trees, no flowers and no us. That's why it's important to protect them and provide them with space to live in," she said. The bees in the garden appear to be calm and not prone to stinging people, pointed out Petra Ježeková from Živica. A beekeeper will see to the hives once per week during the season and a couple of times in the winter. The President's Office intends to hand out the honey that the bees produce as Christmas gifts. The head of the office noted that in the future they'd also like to put insect hotels in the garden as well.
