Slovakia apologises for dissolving Greek Catholic Church

Speaker of Parliament Boris Kollár of the We Are Family party officially apologized to the Greek Catholic Church in Slovakia for its illegal and undemocratic status outside the law 70 years ago. The so called Prešov Assembly was an event organized by the Communists on April 28, 1950, as a part of the fight against the Catholic Church, to which the Greek Catholic Church belonged. At the assembly, the Greek Catholic Church in Czechoslovakia was dissolved. Believers were to automatically become members of the Orthodox Church. Many priests and bishops of this church ended up in prison.
