V4 Leaders Discuss Economic Recovery with German Chancellor

Leaders of the Visegrad Four (V4) countries (Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Slovakia), at a video summit held on Tuesday, discussed the revival of the European economy with German Chancellor Angela Merkel in the wake of the coronavirus crisis. Slovakia was represented in the meeting by Prime Minister Igor Matovič (OLaNO). On Monday (18 May), Merkel along with French President Emmanuel Macron announced their backing of an EU bond to raise €500 billion as a recovery plan to boost the European economy. According to the plan, the European Commission would borrow the money on financial markets and subsequently funnel it into the economies of EU member states via the European budget.
