Candidates who aren't prosecutors will be able to run for the post of prosecutor-general (PG) as early as this summer when the term of current PG Jaromír Cižnar expires, if the Government-sponsored bill is passed in Parliament, TASR press agency reports on Tuesday. At the same time, the election of the Prosecutor General in Parliament will no longer be secret. The general requirements for the candidates will be Slovak citizenship, over 40 years of age, at least 15 years of experience as a lawyer, probity and personal integrity. There is also specified an additional requirement that the candidate's personal life should be a guarantee that they'll carry out their work properly and honestly, although it's unclear at the moment exactly what this means.
