Constitutional judge steps downs due to Kočner connections

Constitutional Court judge Mojmír Mamojka gave up his post in the court, following his controversial contacts with businessman Marian Kočner, who is on trial for ordering the murder of journalist Ján Kuciak. Slovak media have reported on leaked text messages, where Kočner instructs a third person to drive him to a meeting with Mamojka. Kočner tried to get Mamojka's support for a ruling in the favour of his complaint to the Constitutional Court against being investigated in custody in the case of the falsification of promissory notes in which he was later sentenced to 19 years in jail. Mojmír Mamojka rejects the notion that he was abetting Marián Kočner, stating the Government plans to introduce retirement age caps for judges and his ill health as the reasons for his resignation. Mamojka also maintains that he refused to provide the legal advice that Kočner asked him for in the text message and their meeting did not take place.
