It would be good for Smer-SD to think hard about the huge potential of former PM Peter Pellegrini (Smer-SD), according to party deputy chairman Richard Raši, who was commenting on the discussion about a possible change in the party's leadership. He added that the party is heading towards a fair and decent internal competition for who will lead it. "We want to set the party on a course to return it to where it once was," Raši said at a press conference on Tuesday. A few weeks ago Pellegrini said a in an interview with TASR press agency that if the question of who would lead the party did not come to the table, he would consider discussing with other parties a different way to provide citizens with a new and more modern social policy. Pellegrini, who is currently the Deputy Speaker of the Parliament, admitted his candidacy for chairman of Smer-SD party. He stated that the party needed a generational change. At the end of April, the current chairman, Robert Fico, reacted by stating he wants to continue to build a strong opposition party from Smer-SD.
