March revenues increased mainly in retail, foreign trade in red numbers

The development of revenues in internal trade was affected in March 2020 by the emergency situation announced by the Government in connection with the spread of the novel coronavirus, the Statistics Office reported on Wednesday. Revenues increased mainly in retail in non-specialised stores, mainly due to higher sales of food, beverages, tobacco and the press. Meanwhile, the most significant negative impact was in accommodation services and in the sale and repair of motor vehicles. Revenues for own activities and goods in March 2020 increased on a month-on-month basis only in wholesale - by 0.5 percent. Conversely, revenues in all other sectors went down, e.g. revenues in accommodation fell by 50.8 percent y-o-y, and a significant drop was also posted in pubs and restaurants - 21.5 percent. According to further analysis of the Statistics Office, in March Slovakia posted a foreign trade deficit of €331.7 million.
