More than 100 km of new roads to be built

The Transport Ministry plans to open more than 100 kilometres of highways and expressways by the end of the current election term (2016), with more than 300 kilometres of roads projected to be under construction by that date, Transport Minister Jan Počiatek said after opening the 2014 Road Conference in Bratislava on Tuesday.

“I'm confident that by the end of our term, we'll open more than 100 km of highways and express ways”, said Počiatek, adding that all the key road sections have been addressed already and only the finishing touches need to be made. Počiatek stressed that the construction of the D1 motorway between Bratislava and Košice remains the top priority. Another priority is the construction of the D3 highway in the north of Slovakia connecting Poland. A total of 110 km of highways and express ways are currently under construction.
