Begging in Košice to be banned

Košice city has adopted a new regulation which is set to ban begging and homelessness in the Old Town, along with sitting or sleeping in spaces which could impede the free movement of citizens.

The new ban also forbids sexual services to be offered in the city centre. These new measures were suggested by Otto Brixi (Smer) as part of a push to clean up the appearance of the Old Town. This new binding regulation also addresses the issue of free street activities, whereby those engaged in street activities will need to apply for registration and authorisation from the city council to perform, though this will not apply to art, dance, and theatrical performances which meet select criteria. This new regulation will come into force on May 1, 2014.
