Phase 2 of re-opening economy earliest May 6th

The second phase of re-opening the Slovak economy will not take place sooner than May 6th, stated Prime Minister Igor Matovič of the largest governing party Ordinary People.

The second phase should include the re-opening of facilities providing short-term accommodation (no mass catering, food delivered to rooms, no shared toilets or showers, no other services), hair salons, nail salons, tourist landmarks, taxi services (under set conditions), religious services, weddings and several other services.

According to the prime minister, the situation currently seems good, as the number of new coronavirus cases has not been growing rapidly. Nevertheless, "we should not hasten it," noted Matovič. At the same time, he called on the public to keep behaving responsibly. The PM admitted that he is concerned that people will gradually stop obeying the established rules and will, for example, stop wearing face masks or start to travel more. He opines that if this happens the situation might "get out of hand". On the other hand, the chair of junior governing party We Are Family, Boris Kollár, said that the winding down of measures in connection with the spread of the new coronavirus and the opening of the Slovak economy should occur faster, because of the positive development.

Two new cases of coronavirus infection were reported on Sunday increasing the total number to 1,381. So far 403 patients have recovered and 18 people died.
