The ex-head of State Material Reserves Administration Kajetan Kičura will be prosecuted in custody, the Specialised Criminal Court's pre-trial judge ruled on Thursday. According to Kičuras's lawyer, his client accepted the decision calmly and will appeal against it, with the complaint to be decided by the Supreme Court.
In March The National Crime Agency launched criminal proceedings after the media pointed out the too high prices paid by the State Material Reserves for medical materials amid the novel coronavirus outbreak, while Kajetan Kičura's young son was at the same time able to purchase two flats in downtown Bratislava without mortgages.
Prime Minister Igor Matovič (OLaNO), who was then fresh in office, subsequently announced that Kajetan Kičura did not enjoy his confidence as State Material Reserves chief and the government fired him shortly thereafter.
