Drought plagues Slovakia

Drought plagues Slovakia

The whole of Slovakia, with the exception of regions of highest altitude in the mountains, is currently being plagued by drought, the Slovak Hydrometeorological Institute alerted on Tuesday. Most measurement stations have reported 'extreme' drought, several 'strong', while 'moderate' drought is found only at Sliac in central Slovakia. Farmers have also been troubled in April by frosty nights, while daytime highs have been spiking to summer figures (25+ degrees Celsius) in some locations - both features unusual in this stage of spring. This situation has been caused by the dry earth surface and cold, and at the same time by dry air masses coming from the north and north-east, explained the Slovak Hydrometeorological Institute.
