U.S. Steel Kosice offers employees benefit for voluntarily leaving

Some employees of U.S. Steel Kosice can get a one-time salary up to 18 times the average monthly salary, if they terminate their employment by agreement, said a spokesman for the Kosice-based steelworks Ján Bača, adding that the amendment to the collective agreement had been agreed by the company's management and the trade unionists. "This particularly relates to working pensioners and employees who have less than three years to retirement or have worked for U.S. Steel Kosice for 35 and more years," he said, adding that the one-off benefit is being offered by the company as part of labour costs reduction.

OZ KOVO company labour union head Juraj Varga added that if employment is terminated in such a way, the employer has the decisive say and the benefit may be a one-time salary amounting to 12-18 times the average monthly salary. According to him, such a voluntary departure will cancel the given job. "If the number of employees is to be reduced, let it be in such a decent way," he said.
