The European Commission has decided that funds that have not been drawn from the Eurofunds (for the 2014-2020 period) and which would otherwise have to be returned to the EU common budget - amounting to over € 500 million - will be left to Member States in order to be able to use them to combat the economic and health consequences of COVID-19. "We are discussing how to prepare a comprehensive recovery plan for the European economy, which will have to be started as soon as we overcome the current health crisis," stated the EC vice-president for interinstitutional relations and foresight Maroš Šefčovič after the College of Commissioners' meeting on Wednesday.
